I have an MSDS for Ceramic tile grout that has a VOC of 166g/L. Looks like the allowable content for that is 65g/L. If I am correct in putting grout under the ceramic tile adhesive then what happens when we exceed one of the allowable contents? Do we miss the whole credit because of one item?

Roy – that is a really tough question. I would have thought the word structural would have thrown it out. I just looked up structural glazing and found: “Silicone structural glazing is a method utilizing a silicone adhesive to attach glass, metal, or other panel material to the structure of a building”

That sounds to me to be outside, but i have to say im not clear on where the weatherproofing stops and where the exterior begins. Both window structural sealants and roof sealants sound to me to be on the outside of the building.

Ideas anyone?

Had a question on my exam today that had several obvious choices for EQ4 “submittals required by the contractor”. The final choice I had ended on 2 choices:

-roofing adhesive

-Structural glazing adhesive

Now roofing adhesive is “technically” within the waterproof membrane, since the roofing sits on top of the adhesive. Am I overthinking it? Possibly?

Structural glazing adhesive? I don’t even know if I have heard of that! Could be within the waterproof membrane?

Stumper. What do you think? It could be both answers are wrong, but the other choices were painted walls, carpet, tect. Very obvious.

In the ‘performance calculation’ question posted by Stephanie, looking at the ref manual, all except D have calculations in the ‘calculations’ sections. Option F has TWO PAGES (TODP/TGWP) of calculations, so there must be something else to it if F is not included as a correct answer. I’m guessing it is the ‘performance’ aspect. Calculations for E and F are quantity, but not measured against a base. So I’m guessing that ‘performance’ calculations have to do with having a base against which you are measuring improvement?

Why not F?
Option 1 = no refrigerants, no calculations
Option 2 = calculations

but for EAc1 Option 3 Prescriptive Compliance are calculations reqd?

D does not require a performance calculation because there is no measurable performance in MR 4.1-4.4, its only they meet the standards or they don’t; you either used a low VOC paint or you didn’t.

ABC require them because they all have something to measure based on a performance calculation; how much energy performance was gained, how much water was reduced, and how much recycled content was used.

Aerosol Adhesives are the only ones regulated by GS-36 (p 340 of NC 2.2)

SCAQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management District) Rule #1168 is the Referenced Standard for EQc4.1 Low Emitting: Adhesives and Sealants.

Know which standards apply to which credits (especially the EQc4: Low Emitting Materials).

Would you please clarify what of SCAQMD 1168 I need to know for the exam? Do I need to memorize Table 1: SCAQMD VOC Limits on p. 339 of Ref. Guide 2.2?

I don’t recall any questions pertaining to specific VOC limits. You would want to know Green Seal, Geen Label, etc. but those are 4.2 & 4.3. 4.1 would be SCAQMD 1168. Know those!

What VOC level is required for concrete floor sealant (not part of the curing process)? 4.1 says sealant but talks mainly of weatherproofing sealants (caulk, window installation material, etc), but 4.2 talks specifically about floor coverings?

I am assuming 4.2?
